Due to the Tour de Suisse, which takes place on the same weekend, this year’s bike route does not go around Lake Zug, but through the canton of Zug and Zurich.
We have spent the last few months working intensively on an alternative route (subject to definitive commitments from all authorities) and can now present the new bike route to you. The attractive bike route is mostly on roads with little traffic and has a few easy climbs, which are then rewarded with long descents and a fantastic panorama.
What is important to know?
- There are no changes for Saturday.
- On Sunday, the short triathlon will start before the Olympic distance and the relays. Click here for the schedule.
- Olympic and Short have different bike courses. The short bike course is about 10 km shorter. Click here for the course maps.
- The course is not cordoned off and the normal traffic rules apply!
- Many helpers and traffic cadets will be on duty to ensure the safety of all road users.
- A safety concept has been drawn up in close co-operation with the cantonal police. Key points with corresponding measures were agreed:
- On the descent to Blickensdorf through the Bachtalen valley, there is a ban on aerobar driving. This is signposted accordingly and must be observed. Failure to comply will result in immediate disqualification!
- On the way back, the time will be neutralised before the Steinhauser-/Chamerstrasse junction until the transition zone, as there is a junction where the red light is not switched off. All participants must stop at the red light and adhere to the traffic regulations. To do this, they must drive over the timing mat laid out in the bus lane.
How does time neutralisation work?
There will be a timing mat in the bus lane about 200 metres before the Steinhauser-/Chamerstrasse junction. This must be crossed in order for the time to be recorded. Participants then have 10 minutes to cover the 2.6km to the Dismount Line. There is another timing mat there. The race resumes from there. The time needed to complete the 2.6km will be deducted from the total time. The maximum time is 10 minutes. If you do not cross the timing mat at the bus lane, only 3 minutes will be deducted and not the actual time elapsed between the neutralisation start and the dismount line.

Why is the short shorter?
In our experience, many participants in the Short are people who want to gain their first triathlon experience. As the new course differs in its characteristics from the normal lake circuit, we have decided to make a compromise for this year and shorten the course. This is also due to the fact that this change can only be communicated at short notice.
What’s behind all this?
The fact that we did not receive a licence for our lake circuit presented us with major new challenges. Since then, we have put in over hundred hours of additional work and have done everything we can to find an attractive alternative for the bike route. We had to present our new bike route to 9 municipalities and the canton of Zurich, which had not previously been affected by us, and obtain their authorisation. All the municipalities involved and the two cantons of Zug and Zurich were extremely helpful in the process. We are grateful that we have now received all the authorisations verbally.
We can understand that these changes are not well received by all athletes and that some would have preferred to ride the flat Zugersee loop. However, we hope for your understanding and look forward to a great organisation of the 31st Zytturm Triathlon 2025!
Sporting greetings, your OC 🙂
